Sisterhood of the Survivors — Playwright's Staged Reading Workshop

Presented by Northeastern University College of Art Media and Design, Theater Department and Mills College at Northeastern University Dance & Theater Studies Department

This event is free and open to the public.

Based on the real stories of four Romanian human trafficking survivors, Sisterhood of the Survivors explores the three periods of each survivor's life: their childhood, their human trafficking experience, and their rehabilitation time at the shelter. Set in a rehabilitation shelter, a young survivor joins after recently escaping from her trafficker. The monologue style play showcases how trust and strength is built through telling their stories, and how through their shared experience they can build relationships with one another and attain a life of freedom, independence, and resilience. Content warning: the play contains themes of violence, exploitation, and abuse. At the end of the play there will be an opportunity to have a talk back with the audience.

Bianca Vranceanu — Bringing light to the voices that often go unheard and the stories that go untold is what fuels Bianca Vranceanu as a playwright. Her mission is to provide a platform that showcases stories that are unexpected, insightful, and experimental. As an American-Romanian playwright, her experience with different cultures has shaped her lens of the world and influences her writing. Whenever she starts a project, she considers who will be represented on stage and how their story can be shared in the most meaningful way. Bianca Vranceanu’s style of writing is an intersection of  the telling of a true event, merged with her personal artistic interpretation. Her play The Infinite Moment of Now which explores the fierceness, fragility, and sometimes fanciful nature of female friendship and how the dynamic bond of three friends develops over a decade, was part of the first ever staged reading event at Stadium Theatre. Her play, Sharks and Minnows, which focuses on the exciting, daunting, and transitional nature of adolescence will be part of the 2023 Boston Theatre Marathon. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northeastern University, where she earned a B.A. in Theatre with minors in Playwriting and in English.
