Elected in 2014, Mayor Schaaf leads the city of Oakland, the third largest city in the San Francisco Bay Area and the eighth most populous city in California. An Oakland native, Schaaf is the city’s second female mayor and fiftieth mayor overall. 

During her tenure, Schaaf has lever- aged civic engagement to boost the city’s economic revitalization and address housing and infrastructure challenges. Mayor Schaaf will dis- cuss the policies that have shaped Oakland and the value of connecting city government with local citizens and organizations to solve public problems. Schaaf will also talk about her personal career trajectory and role as a community leader.
