This teaser class, taught by Kaethe Hostetter, will give you a view into the unique and wonderful world of Ethiopian music. Kaethe will break down some scales, rhythms as well as social context of the music, and the participants will walk away having learned at least one song. Having spent 11 years as a violinist in Addis Kaethe brings both on the ground experience and classical analytical background to her teaching, and she’ll also be drawing on the musical wisdom of her teacher, masinko player and Chicago Jazz Strings Summit featured performer Endris Hassen. Bring your instrument and your notebook and get ready for a whirlwind journey into this fascinating musical culture.
